New Year Wardrobe Ideas
As the lazy summer holidays come to an end, we look forward to another productive year of work and achievement. Some of us may be looking for a new and exciting challenge, while others will want to expand their wings within current working roles. Whatever the year may bring, a fresh new wardrobe is sure to give you a sharp, ready for anything look which shows you have the fire and right attitude to get the job done.

A few key pieces and a great fitting suit will have you in an impressive wardrobe that can take on the best dressed in the business. Always make sure you choose a suit that fits well and suits your personality. For the girls, a skirt should never be shorter than wider and should always finish at the slimmest part of your leg either 2 inches above or below your knee.

Relaxed and casual work places offer a freedom in your dress code and although this is more relaxed it can prove to be trickier to coordinate than the power suit.

The sum of a wardrobe is important; a wardrobe that contains 5 bottoms, 10 tops and 5 jackets equals around 60 outfit combinations. Add in 5 great dresses for the girls and you will have over 80 outfits in your wardrobe.

The rules you should stick to:
Watch a plunging neckline and hemlines that are too short.
Never wear to much make-up (unless of course this is part of your trade) and don't over accessorise.
Casual yet expensive is the look that will get you noticed for the right reasons.

Finishing touches can make or break a look so choosing good quality accessories will give you an air of expensive taste and a look of control. A leather brief case or handbag is an investment worth making, as good leather ages it becomes softer and more luxe. A classic watch is a real statement piece and something you can keep forever. And when your ipad or blackberry fail you nothing smarter than a good quality pen to note down all of the important things you will need to do with your amazing strong, positive look!

The last thing you need in the work place is a confident handshake styled up with positive can do attitude and remember you're never fully dressed without a smile.

Back to Work – Create Personal Impact
A new year, new resolutions and perhaps a new career, or at least a new approach to your career. Whatever your next move, after 13 years with KPMG in Sydney and Melbourne, Jennifer Berry now Creative Director for Adrienne and The Misses Bonney St Ives can confirm it is "personal impact" that sets people apart.

"Personal Impact is a nebulous quality but is often 'the x factor' when it comes to winning that new job, promotion or client," advises Jennifer. "It is generally assumed you have the technical and administrative skills – that's a given and rarely discussed. The main point of difference in assessing candidates is their personal impact or presence."

Certainly one of the most important components of personal impact is your personal image. Sad but true, we do judge a book by its cover! As soon as you meet someone you are making judgements and decisions about that person largely based on how they look, how they behave and lastly what they say. We 'bank' images for future reference, so first impressions are important and lasting. Does your image support your career moves or is it sabotaging you?
A new season is a great time to assess your wardrobe and build in some key pieces. "Mela Purdie is known for her travel wear," advises Jennifer, "and at present we have been working with our corporate clients in the mining sector who are working on a FIFO basis and need to look the part in the air and on the ground. It's not just the blokes at the coalface who are working on a FIFO basis, but our clients in senior management, training and engineering roles are travelling extensively." Mela Purdie is travel wear for immediate work ready status! Speak to Jennifer at Adrienne and The Misses Bonney St Ives now about how to build a wardrobe that supports your personal image and gives you 'the x factor.'

This winter, Mela Purdie has a sharp cropped jacket and winter coats that lift any career wardrobe. Work in a creative field? You will love her directional silk pieces and colours really pop this season.

Fashion Events at the Village

Autumn & Winter 2012
Fashion that's independent and individual, just like you.

It's all about individual style at St Ives this Autumn, with knitwear, tailoring, soft volume and playful accessories allowing individual choices to shine through.

Winter fashion this year features strong textures, bold checks, tweeds and strong Autumn tones.

In general, the colours of this Autumn's fashion will consist of neutral, black and taupe, but also go into an array of refreshing forest-like greens, with a teal-esque sea green going strong along with dramatic scarlet, reminiscent of the silver screen's greatest. Green tones offset by rich burgundy is the colour that dominates, with the "wine color palette" very in, this season.

Minimalist is another key word with simple dresses and coats being cleverly tweaked with slashed, asymmetric neck-lines and collars with several layers. For the most part, women's fashion maintains its status in the realm of being elegant and ladylike. Taking from TV shows such as Mad Men and movies like Black Swan.

See over 140 individual looks on parade at our winter fashion events.

NEW! Friday Fashion for a Cause UN Women projects
Friday 30 March, 2 parades 11am and 1pm

If you can't make our Girls Night Out, make sure you book a seat to attend this special daytime event featuring extended parades, reserved seating, a light refreshment and reward voucher.

This is a fund-raising event for International Women's Day, hosted by Juanita Phillips, ABC TV newsreader plus guest speaker Dr Cindy Pan. Fashions will be presented from around the Centre with an extra International feel to celebrate International Women's Day.

Seats are $20 with $10 from every ticket going to assist the Pacific Region Markets Project.

Funds raised will go to the Partners Improving Markets project which will be rolled out throughout the Pacific. Women make up 85% of market vendors in the Pacific, and yet they work in unsafe and unhygienic conditions. They are frequently victims of violence and their money is taken by market vendors for 'stall fees'.

Women often need to bring their children to the market, as they are not able to leave them at home which means that the children are not able to attend school for days on end. Marketplaces throughout the Pacific have no toilets, lighting, lockers or basic rules for how vendors can sell their wares.

UN Women is working with local governments to understand the needs of market vendors and the impact that markets and women have on the economy. UN Women also work with local women to support them to form collectives, understand their rights and provide them with financial management training to enable them to grow their revenue.

Dr Cindy Pan MBBS, FRACGP is a medical practitioner, best selling author and media personality. She has worked in general practice and appears on television, lectures, speaks and writes about health, lifestyle and relationship issues. She is a women's rights activist working for organisations to raise the awareness of the plight of girls and women in developing countries.
