My Favourite Pocket Money Ideas

Got no cash to buy gifts for family this Christmas?
Here are some great tips on how to earn your way to the top of everyone's 'who's been good' list.

Mowing your neighbours' lawns
This is a great way to earn money and you
will be getting some exercise as well.

You will need: A lawnmower; access to a computer and printer; and a rake and garbage bag.

Job: Let people know that you are available to mow their lawns by putting up some business flyers.

Let your parents know when someone enquires about your services and you book them in for an appointment.

Possible earnings:
Charge between $20 and $30
a lawn, depending on its size.

Tip: Finishing touches are very important, don't forget to rake up the leaves and left over grass, and put it into a garbage bag.

Selling cold drinks
Summer is the perfect time to make money this way, afterall, who can resist an icy cold drink on a hot sunny day.

You need: Colourful sign, balloons, cardboard; table, chairs, tablecloth, cups, serviettes and a money box with some change already in it; an apron, and drinks.

Job: Decide what you will sell...sometimes it works well to purchase two litre bottles of no-name brand soda, decant it into jugs and offer customers a choice between three flavours. Make sure you have an esky filled with ice on hand, and a scoop so that you can ensure your clients have cold drinks.

Possible earnings: Between 50c and $1 a cup.

Tip: Remember to keep your stand clean and to use a scoop when adding ice.

Also make sure you set your stand up in an area that has many people pass through it.

House Sitting
Who will be looking after your neighbour's house when they go on holiday this year? You could offer your services, and earn some cash in return.

You need: Access to a computer and printer, a watering can

Job: Make up some flyers with your name and contact details on them that say you are available to house sit.

Most people need their post regulary bought in, plants watered, and a light turned on at night and off during the day. Let your neighbours know you can also do extra jobs like mow the lawn just before they get back and put chemicals in the swimming pool.
