NSW Seniors Week 2010 |

March 21 - 28, 2010
To mark NSW Seniors Week, March 21-28, 2010, Ku-ring-gai Council is providing a whole host of activities for our older residents as part of the Ku-ring-gai Council Seniors Festival running from February 27 to March 25.
The launch for the festival will take place on Friday March?5 with a Seniors Concert and morning tea at Turramurra Uniting Church. This will include the annual Mayoral awards. There will be a performance by musicians from Ku-ring-gai Philharmonic Orchestra and local school children.
Some interesting seminars will also be offered such as an "Introduction to Researching your?Family Tree" by the Historical Society as well as a "Pools to Ponds and Greenstyle" so you can learn how to save the environment and money?by making simple changes to your home. Another highlight is an excursion to Kimbriki Recycling Depot which will include a talk with Peter Rutherford - garden guru extraordinaire.
St Ives Shopping?Village are also hosting a community expo for local community services?that will promote what is available to seniors to help them remain active, independent and healthy in their own homes. A number of community organisations will have "Open Days" and these will include Computer Pals, U3A in St Ives and a variety day at the Grange.
There will be a free demonstration class of Tai Chi and a local gym will be promoting a "come and try" offering.

The Village High Tea |
Friday 12 March, 11am, 12.30am and 2pm
Now in its 6th year! Vov Dylan returns to St Ives Shopping Village on March 12 for the ever popular Seniors Week High Tea. Vov will be joined by his Quartet plus regular special guest Enzo Toppano and competition winning ballroom dancers.
At this year's performances, Vov will entertain with regular hits including the Blue Danube, Radetzky March and Czardas plus some new numbers. Plus you will hear a selection from his album 'The Affair'.
Vov is excited about returning to St Ives with his orchestra, “St Ives Village is where my journey began as leader of my own Orchestra. It now feels like home and I look forward each year to entertaining all the faces I have come to know over the last 6 years.”
Guests will be served a traditional high tea with sandwiches and scones with jam and cream.
Cost : $8 per person ($5 with bookings of 8 or more made and paid at same time). Bookings essential at Centre Management between February 15 and March 8. Seats limited so be early!

Simon Tedeschi & Madeleine Easton Concert |
Two of North Shore’s Finest Return For Concert
Pianist Simon Tedeschi, currently based in the United States and violinist Madeleine Easton, who is based in London, will return to the North Shore where they grew up, to perform together at a concert to be held at St Ives Uniting Church, cnr Mona Vale Rd & Douglas St on Saturday 20th March. Proceeds from the event will help fund Community Outreach programs currently focused on encouraging respect for seniors in the community.
Madeleine, who attended Lane Cove Primary School, started playing violin at age 5 and graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium with first class honours. She is currently the Concert Master with the Hanover Band in London.
Simon Tedeschi, described by pianist Leslie Howard as one of the finest musicians of his generation worldwide, spent his youth in the Lindfield area. Simon first performed a Mozart Piano Concerto at age 9 in the Sydney Opera House. He has won numerous prizes and piano scholarships. Simon performed in the Sydney Opera House in September 2007 as part of the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation) Cultural Event, for major world leaders. In early 2009, Simon performed at the Gday USA Celebrations in Carnegie Hall, to celebrate Inauguration Day.
St Ives Uniting Church’s has for many years given encouragement and support to local young musicians and at this concert has invited St Ives local, 17yo soprano Rhian Saunders to perform two pieces with Simon Tedeschi.
Simon and Madeleine will perform pieces for piano and violin by Schubert and Rhian will perform pieces by Dvorak and Delibes. Tickets 4.00pm $30 and 8.00pm $35 (Students half price)

St Ives Shopping Village will once again host Ku-Ring-Gai Art Society’s first exhibition of the year.
Exhibiting members of this prestigious society, many highly acclaimed and award-winning artists, will showcase their latest works, with approximately 200 artworks displayed on the Cowan Level of the Village.
The artworks range in style from traditional to contemporary and include painting, drawing and printmaking techniques; a wide selection of highly affordable and desirable acquisitions.

As part of our 50th year celebrations we will be seeking 5 people from 5 generations to represent St Ives for one year from a styling/fashion point of view. This will include events and advertising.
For our five ambassadors, the prize package will include a photo shoot incorporating a full
makeover and $1,000 worth of fashion and beauty from St Ives Shopping Village. Our Style Ambassadors will also be part of our season’s launch on Thursday 29 April, 2010 and ongoing
fashion and style features.

NEW STYLE! VIP Night – Style and Pamper Showcase |
Thursday 29 April, 6 – 9pm
Seasonal Style Showcase and VIP shopping event
This season we aim to create a whole new feel that does not limit the number of guests that can attend. The new style event will incorporate fashion showcases on mini stages throughout the night as well as merchandise displays and café package offers.
There will be 4 style podiums located around the centre with 8 fashion showings over the 6 – 8.30pm period with each fashion retailer showcased twice.
Each style podium will also have a beauty bar element where our beauty and hair retailers will demonstrate their style directions and offer on the spot pamper sessions.
Guests will receive a welcome drink and canapés on arrival plus a guest bag with the Fashion and Beauty Rewards Book (your special offers) including one night only vouchers for dining, fashion and beauty. Entertainment with a 60’s theme will delight all guests throughout the night.
The cost to attend the event is just $16 per person ($14 per person for bookings of 6 or more) with $10 per ticket donated to St Edmunds Secondary School Wahroonga.
Tickets go on sale from Monday March 15 until Sunday April 25th. No limits apply.

The funds raised from this event will support St Edmunds in their continuing improvements to the campus to create a leading educational environment for
secondary students with vision impairment and other special needs.
